American Crafter: Hardware Store Challenge (Industrial Shade)

VOTING IS OPEN UNTIL SUNDAY AT MIDNIGHT

This week has been such an exciting week! Being chosen to compete in Naptime Crafters,  American Crafter, is such an honor! I'm never chosen for anything! The other contestants are so talented, I have to admit, I've been a little nervous!! When I found out the theme was "hardware store gems", my mind started racing. It wasn't very hard for me to come up with ideas, but rather, hard to stick to just one idea. My Original idea was to make a hanging pendent light using air conditioner duct and paint chips. So these are some of the supplies I got:

I took apart the necklace to use the links to attach the paint chips together. When I finished I taped them to the duct to see how it was looking.

It looked like paint chips hanging from duct work! So I had to think again. I loved the idea of using the metal duct as a shade, and new I wanted to use the paint chips, so I decided to make a lamp shade! I started with this lamp that my mom gave me a month or so ago. It has been around since I was a kid!

and ended up with this:

I took the lamp apart and sprayed all of the brass with a high gloss black. I sprayed the "shade" with a bright white in a satin finish. The duct collar has a vent (I think that is what it is) on the inside of it that I drilled a hole in the center of to attach to the lamp.  I used the paint chips to make rolled paper roses, which are SO  easy to make and so pretty! You would never know that they are paper, let alone paint chips!

The list of items used to make the flowers include:
painters drop cloth
screen
white linen
variety of nuts, bolts and washers
furniture floor saver felt circles
steel wool
and a few "names unknown" of things I had in the garage

Here are some pictures of the finished project

I also re-did this dresser! I'll post about it soon

And again here is the before and after:
